Dr. Paul C. Magarelli, M.D., Ph.D.
Founder and Director of Reproductive Medicine and Fertility Centers in Colorado Springs and Albuquerque, New Mexico (NM). He was trained as a Ph.D. Scientist with a specialty in Reproductive Biology and Nutritional Biochemistry. His career shifted when he realized his calling was to help people with their reproductive issues. He received his Medical Degree at the University of Arizona and his Residency training in Ob/Gyn at Duke University. He then crossed country to train at UCLA/Cedar’s Sinai’s prestigious Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility Fellowship. He is board certified in Ob/Gyn and subspecialty board certified in Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility and is Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of New Mexico.

Rebecca Baca, N.C.I.C.S., Office Biller / Receptionist |
| Rebecca has been at RMFC since May 2003. She received her diploma and national certification in Medical Insurance Billing & Coding. She first started at RMFC as a receptionist, but due to her enthusiasm, dedication and hard work to this practice, she graduated to the billing department. Rebecca enjoys working in both departments, however in the billing department she doesn’t get as much of a chance to get to know the patients like she did when she was the receptionist, so when needed, she’s happy to jump up front to help out. |

| Originally from New York and moved to Colorado where she received her diploma in Medical Administrative Assistant. This is her first job experience in the medical field. Frances speaks Spanish fluently which is helpful with our growing population of Spanish speaking patients. |

Our Patient Services Staff strive to assist you in every way possible. They work very hard to get to know everyone, and a warm smile and friendly welcome should greet you at every visit. Our receptionists work diligently to schedule procedures and visits so as to cause minimal disruption of a couples busy schedule.

| Mel has over 28 years of surgical assisting experience in transplantation, orthopedics, plastic and reconstructive surgery and gynecology as well as 20 years in administrative and office operations. He has co-authored more than 30 papers in gynecology, IVF and advanced surgical techniques. He is proud to be a team member of Reproductive Medicine & Fertility Center. When not at work he enjoys teaching at Metro State University and being an active on field official in the NFL. |

| Jess has been at RMFC since November 1999. He retired as an SMSgt from the Air Force after 26 years of service. His many assignments included tours as the Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of Administration, Office of the Surgeon General, Headquarters, United States Air Force, and as the Chief of Administration at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center, the largest medical facility in the Air Force. Jess has over 31 years experience in Health Care Management. In addition to being the Office Manager, his responsibilities include Medical Systems, Logistics and Facilities. |

Clinical
We take great pride in our clinical staff. Our nurses (RNs) have extensive training and experience in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. The nursing personnel at RMFC spend much of they day involved with education and emotional support of our patients. We believe that the more a couple knows about infertility and their particular problem, the more successful we will be, as a team, in our efforts to achieve your goals. Also, emotional support is one of the highest priorities for helping couples deal with some of the difficult issues infertility may cause.

| Cecelia is the In Vitro and Donor Programs Director. Cecilia has a variety of inpatient hospital experiences to include labor and delivery. She has an in-depth knowledge of the military health care system and understands the special circumstances our military families face. She graduated summa cum laude in her nursing degree at UTSA in Texas and was selected to complete her Masters in Minnesota in a full scholarship. She has coauthored and published two articles on working women after childbirth. |
Jeannie Harlan , RNC, BSN: Reproductive Nurse |
| Reproductive Nurse Manager at RMFC for the past 4 years. She is certified in inpatient Obstetrics and brings over 15 years experience in women’s health. Jeannie graduated from Iowa Methodist School of Nursing, receiving her RN diploma and attended Buena Vista College, receiving her BSN. “Having gone through my own personal experience with infertility, I can appreciate how important it is to our patients to pursue their dreams of having a child. I believe we offer hope and support to families who may feel their situation is hopeless. My role as a Reproductive Nurse is both challenging and rewarding. I have the privilege of providing education, giving emotional support and sharing the joys and sorrows with each family.” |

Tabitha is a new edition to RMFC, but has been in the medical field for 8 years. She has experience in Urgent Care, hospital & clinic settings, and in dialysis. Tabitha is enthusiastic about the opportunity she has to be with RMFC and anxious to excel in the field. She will also be working closely with the MISI program and its patients. |

| Registered medical assistant for seven years. Her specialties include: Family Practice, Pediatrics, and Cardiology. Gena started at RMFC over year and half ago. Gena has found RMFC to be like a family and a home. Gena will be going back to school to be a Registered Nurse this fall. |

| Medical Assistant to Reproductive Medicine and Fertility Center. Her original training was in Computer Information Systems. She later realized that she needed another challenge, and decided to enter the medical field. She knew the challenges ahead of her, but wanted to care for patients. Before earning her degree in Occupational Studies, Dr. Paul Magarelli took her under his supervision and allowed her to learn and experience the medical world. She is now studying to be both a registered medical assistant and phlebotomist, through American Medical Technologist. Her future plans are to get her Masters in Physician’s Assistant. She has been working for Dr. Paul Magarelli since October of 2004. |

Laboratory Staff
Critical to the success of any Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) program is the members of its laboratory team. We have a very motivated and knowledgeable group of individuals who have pooled their talents and expertise to form a very successful ART team. Our endocrine, andrology, and embryology laboratory experts help to develop and facilitate the best ART plan for each individual patient.
Steve Yue Weh Chan, Ph.D. , HCLD IVF Scientific Director / Senior Embryologist |
Steven Chan, Ph.D. (Baylor College of Medicine; Houston, Texas,), HCLD (High-Complexity Laboratory Director): is our IVF scientific director and senior embryologist. With over 20 years of experience in IVF and embryology and over 80 publications in reproductive biology, IVF, embryology and andrology in peer-reviewed journals, he is highly skilled in the advanced laboratory techniques of micromanipulation including intracytopalsmic sperm injection (ICSI) for assisted fertilization, assisted hatching of embryos for enhancement of implantation, embryo cryopreservation, and processing and cryopreservation of testicular and epididymal sperm for use in treatment of severe male infertility. His present projects in IVF include human oocyte freezing, vitrification of human embryos for improvement of survival rates, and embryo biopsy for pre-implantation genetic diagnosis. His service/teaching/ research experience reaches from Hong Kong (University of Hong Kong Medical School), Los Angeles (Cedars-Sinai Medical Center), San Diego (Mary Beth Hospital for Women) to Colorado Springs (Reproductive Medicine and Fertility Center). He has also trained a good number of embryologists who are now actively servicing different IVF programs in Hong Kong, Los Angeles, and San Diego. |
Tammy Titus B.S. MT (AMT) Embryologist / Lab Supervisor |
| Tammy is an embryologist and our laboratory supervisor. She also has expertise in andrology. She has a Medical Technologist degree with a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, and reproductive hormones testing. Tammy has extensive experience in cryopreservation of human sperm and embryo samples, as well as knowledge of retrograde ejaculation and other advanced andrology techniques. She is proficient in processing of sperm samples for use in artificial insemination and IVF, strict criteria grading of human sperm morphology, sperm antibody testing, sperm viability testing, post-vasectomy semen evaluations, and cryopreservation for sperm for cancer patients. She also performs endocrinology testing and QA/QC records for the laboratory and instrument for hormone testing. Tammy is currently pursing a Masters Degree in IVF/Embryology and Andrology to further her knowledge of IVF. |
Marie Tafoya, BSMT, ASCP (New Mexico) Medical Technologist / Endocronology |
| Marie received her Bachelor of Science degree in medical technology in 1984 from the University of New Mexico. Her first job did not take her far but just across the street to the clinical laboratory at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, where she gained her 21 years of laboratory experience. Wanting a different direction for her career Marie still did not have far to go as the opportunity to become an andrology specialist for the University Hospitals Reproductive Endocrinology Laboratory & The New Mexico Cryobank presented itself. Reproductive Medicine is both a challenge and a blessing and one that Marie truly enjoys. |

Acupuncture Consortium Leaders

Diane graduated from the International Institute of Chinese Medicine in l995 with her Masters of Oriental Medicine degree. She trained in Beijing, China to explore the root of this ancient healing art. She is NCCA certified, licensed in Colorado and is a member of Resolve, a national infertility support group. She has also had extensive training in Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine. Diane worked in Western Medicine for more than 20 years. Through her own personal experience with using Acupuncture to overcome a debilitating illness, she had a career change and decided that acupuncture was her calling. Diane has recently completed numerous studies with RMFC that demonstrated significant improvement in IVF pregnancies associated with the combination of acupuncture and Western high tech fertility treatments. East Winds Acupuncture is dedicated to developing new treatments for both Male and Female infertility and continues to perform research with Centers of Excellence in Reproductive Medicine. Diane believes “We must take advantage of the breakthrough in modern technology, but we can't lose touch with the wisdom of ancient Chinese Medicine”. She is the Director and Acupuncture Consortium leader for RMFC. |

| Diane is in private practice as a Doctor of Oriental Medicine at Heights Acupuncture Center in Albuquerque, NM. She is also a visiting faculty member at Southwest Acupuncture College. Diane teaches regular classes in Celtic shamanism and offers her services as a shamanic healer among her other pursuits. She has been formally trained in contemplative work with dying people, herbology, psychology, Shamanism, and therapeutic bodywork. She has published a chapter on Energetic Medicine, in the 6th edition of Pain Management: A Practical Guide for Clinicians, American Academy of Pain Management (CRC Press 2001). Dr. Diane is our Acupuncture Consortium leader in New Mexico. |
